Read the care label before washing, steaming or ironing your suit. The outer fabric, lining and jacket construction may need different care.

After wearing your suit

Empty the pockets and hang the jacket on a hanger shaped to support the shoulders. Hang the pants neatly, leaving space around both pieces. Let the suit dry fully before storing it.

Check for stains after wearing the suit. If the fabric allows brushing, gently remove loose lint and dust with a clothes brush. Work carefully around embroidery, trim and delicate finishes.

When to clean your suit

Use the care label to choose the cleaning method. How soon the suit needs cleaning depends on stains, odors and how you wear it.

Take a suit marked “dry clean only” to a professional cleaner. Point out stains, trim or damage and explain what caused any stain. Avoid scrubbing or using a household stain remover until you know the treatment is suitable for the fabric.

Pressing and steaming

Follow the label’s instructions for ironing, steam and temperature. Ask a professional cleaner to press a structured jacket if you are unsure how to treat its fabric or finish.

Storage and travel

Keep the jacket, pants and any matching vest together. Store them clean and dry, with enough room to avoid crushing the fabric. A breathable garment bag can protect the suit during storage.

When travelling, use a garment bag if practical and unpack the suit when you arrive. Check for wrinkles early so there is time to have it pressed if needed.

Before you wear it again
